The last full day in Poland, and while it’s not exactly a difficult stage, there’s no time for resting on your laurels if you want to stay on the wheel in front. With only three hundred and fifty of climbing on offer, the speed will be consistently high, even when the road is climbing, and that will take its toll on your legs. The route is again north easterly and relatively straight with some meandering stuff in the middle. None of it is flat however, and it will be difficult to find a gear that works consistently for any length of time.
The rollout from Barglow Dworny is lumpy, as in gently down/up/down/up for a couple of miles to Netta Druga. It’s also very straight. The road flattens out thereafter, passes through Prosta Droga at four miles, just ahead of the lowest point on the stage, then crosses over Highway 8 north of Bialobrzegi at five miles, before zigzagging right/left/right through Augustow, sandwiched between the lakes of Necko to the north and Sajno to the south: they are connected by the Netta river and the twin canals of Bystry and Augustowski which the route crosses at seven miles. By now, the ATW route is route 16, having swapped route 655 for route 16 at the intersection on the way into town.
After Augustow, the route heads into dense forest, passing through Studzieniczna at twelve miles where the road crosses the Wojciech lake and the Augustowski canal in quick succession, then it’s onward to Serski Las at eighteen miles and yet more forest before the road emerges once more into the finish at Gleboki Brod, just after the crossing of the Czarna Hancza river.
