Stage 366 – Lake Alexandrina to Meningie

Back to the coast! The stage basically heads south to Meningie, which is about seven miles from the waterline, then it turns sharp left (east) to pick up the McIntosh Way towards Melbourne, albeit still a long way from it.

The rollout from the Nine Mile Turn Off on the Princes Highway to Poltalloch Plains is flat for five miles to Selkirk Lodge. There, the road climbs up and over the headland that runs down to face Narrung across the water on Lake Alexandrina where it meets Lake Albert.

The climb’s initially fifty feet in an up/down that spans fifty feet over a mile and a half. It’s then lumpy flat for a further mile and a half before a sharper, steeper climb kicks in at nine miles approaching Dunmedoh Park. That climb’s more severe at a hundred and fifty feet but the road soon drops back down again to the bunch of mini lakes east of Lake Albert and south of Tatiara Station at eleven miles.

By halfway on the stage, the vast majority of the climbing is done, and the next seven flat miles, past Alleen and Dumosa, take the highway to Meningie at nineeen miles on the south east tip of Lake Albert. Inevitably when leaving a low lying community next to water, the highway rises as it turns left away from Meningie. There’s an initial up/down as the road leaves town before a more pronounced but gradual climb arrives at Mandalay at twenty one miles: that just leaves one more up/down to Cajemic before the final climb to the finishing line.
