Stage 362 – Paralowie to Uraidia

This is a fabulous stage for all manner of reasons, the main one being that it passes through the centre of Adelaide before climbing up into the Adelaide Hills on a beast of a climb.

The rollout curves right after a mile then heads straight and south to six miles, passing by Globe Derby Park and Greenfields Wetland on the way into town. The Port Wakefield Highway hangs a left at Gepps Cross Reserve, heading along Grand Junction Road for a mile to the right hander onto Hampstead Road at seven miles.

As the route heads south into the city, passing by Enfield on the right and Campbelltown on the left, the road swings left at Manningham then right at Payneham before scooting down the eastern side of the city, taking in Mayland, Norwood and Heathpool in quick succession.

At Tusmore, the route hangs a left past Hazelwood Park in the Burnside district, and that’s where the fun starts: with fifteen miles in the bag and maybe two hundred feet of climbing done to that point, the remaining seven miles pack a punch of over fifteen hundred feet of ascent.

As the road snakes its way up the western side of the Greenhill Recreation Park, it meanders by Greenhill itself at eighteen miles and continues swinging left and right as it climbs up to Summertown at twenty miles followed by Uraidla at twenty one miles: there, the road takes a big clockwise loop round the northern side of the Uraidla Oval before heading south east towards the Biefari Vineyard Estates. You’ll no doubt be relieved that he road does finally flatten out at twenty miles and the last two miles from Summertown are relatively flat.
