Stage 211 – Traktovo-Kurzan to Nyura

Another lumpy stage but thankfully a stage that finishes a couple of hundred feet lower than it starts. Yes, there’s a lot of climbing (again) but as most of it is before the yellow kite the second half of the stage is relatively calm.

The rollout from Traktovo-Kurzan descends steeply for half a mile through the forest before a three mile climb rises quickly to regain all of the lost elevation, and more. Although there’s a short descent over the top, the road soon rises again to attain the highest elevation of the stage as it exists the forest at five miles.

As the highways meanders in and out of the forest at the northern edge of the clearing, so it starts a rapid descent from seven miles to nine miles. But that’s just the precursor to the next steep climb that takes you by Bulyushkina and back into the forest: that climb tops out at twelve miles, just after the yellow kite, before the fun second half of the stage kicks in.

There’s a big descent from miles twelve to fifteen before a kick back climb rises a hundred feet to take you into Tulun at sixteen miles. Then there’s a further descent to fourteen hundred feet to cross the Iya river in the middle of the town at seventeen miles.

The remaining seven miles of the stage are lumpy flat as the road follows a series of lakes all the way to the finish. The road curves left and right as it leaves town, and picks up the line of the railway at twenty two miles: indeed the two run side by side all the way from there to the finish, which comes a mile after a short rise that follows the merging with the railway line.
