There is such a lumpy start to this stage! You’ll think it’s your birthday as the road dives downhill straight out of the pen, but be warned, what goes down also goes up: Sure, you descend about five hundred feet in the first four miles, but be assured that you have to regain all of that elevation and more in less than half the distance thereafter. By the time you’re through Bol’shaya Zlatogorka after seven miles, you’ll have knocked out the steepest climb of the stage and be sitting at the highest elevation.
However there are a couple of things to note about the elevation profile: the rapid descent from the off is to cross the Zolotoy Kitat river: then the descent from the summit at seven miles is to cross the Bol’shoy Alchedat river at ten miles. Once that’s out of the way, you’ve a short steep climb up to the junction to Iverka Listvyanka at eleven miles which sits just before a right hand band that hosts Krasnyy Yar on its inside.
Thereafter it’s lumpy: there are further unnamed water crossings at fifteen and eighteen miles on what looks on the map like a long straight through the forest, before a long left hander at nineteen miles sets you up for the descent to the line: but be warned: just when you’re enjoying yourself flying downhill, the road suddenly kicks up again a mile from the finish. This stage is a real tester, and you’ll be feeling it by the finish.
