Stage 169 – Lebedevskii to Kokoshino

The journey east to Novosibirsk continues unabated with this third speedfest in a row. The combined ascent of this stage and its two predecessors amounts to less combined that stage 170 which is coming up next, so as the saying goes, best to make hay while the sun shines.

The rollout heads straight east and is a flattish straightish downhill for four miles. Then the road kicks up and down briefly before flattening out again round a long curving right hander that straightens out at seven miles. Coming out of that bend, the M51 highway passes the (first) junction to Kargat, then crosses the river of the same name before passing the second junction to Kargat which also serves Pervomayskiy and Alabuginskiy to the south.

The next five miles, whilst dead straight, are very lumpy up and down: nothing major to climb: just a lot of them. The left hander at thirteen miles sets up another straight, this time four miles long, which descends initially before climbing gradually over the rest of its course. Halfway down that straight, just after Kapralovo, the road enters the forest, and once into the trees the road hangs a gentle left before emerging to present you with a right hander into the final sprint to the line. It’s pretty safe to say that the last four miles are basically flat so you can afford to wind it up and go for it.
