This is a stage for the diesel engines. It roughly translates into seven miles lumpy flat, twelve miles downhill then a five mile climb to the finish at Vinzili.
The rollout from Gusevo heads east towards Tyumen, but the route takes you south east (anticlockwise) around the ring road at the first intersection on the outskirts of the town rather than through the town itself. Until that point, the journey is pretty flat and the intersection with the ring road is actually the highest elevation of the stage. Thereafter the long descent begins, and when it bottoms out at Borovskiy adjacent to Lake Andreyevskoye, you’re already within five miles of the finish.
The road skirts by the forest at sixteen miles, then enters it for real at nineteen miles, exiting it again just half a mile from the finish. For much of the road down from Tyumen, the road follows the railway line heading south to Yalutorovsk: indeed the railway will be a feature of the next few stages as the road continues to head south east.
This is a relatively easy stage at less than two hundred feet of climbing, but alas it’s the precursor to three much more testing stages that lie ahead.
