Braine-l’Alleud to Leuven, and so to Brussels, or not as the route slides past the Belgian capital on its south eastern side.
Most of the stage is below sea level, with the road only briefly popping up for air at eleven miles. Once again, there are barely a couple of hundred metres of flat road on the stage and the dive down to three hundred feet below sea level at twenty miles is a chance to really burn some gas. The downside of that however, is that the final four miles are all uphill.
Just below the road winds its way into Leuven for the finale, the route passes through the village of Oud-Heverlee: but best not stop for a beer with work still to do.
Stage 8 is the hilliest to date, throwing up 1043ft of climbing in its 24.8 miles.
